Preventive Health
Queensland Transport Workplace Health Intervention
RHealth has been funded to develop, deliver and evaluate workplace based intervention(s) addressing physical inactivity and unhealthy eating of truck drivers. RHealth will work with a number of workplaces and their employees across the Southern Downs, South Burnett and Darling Downs.
The objectives are to:
• Encourage changes to policy, cultural and physical environments provided by participating workplaces that support worker lifestyle related chronic disease risk modification.
• Increase employer awareness and knowledge of workplace strategies in relation to chronic disease risk modification.
• Encourage positive behaviour changes by workers employed as drivers in each of the involved workplaces in areas relating to physical inactivity and unhealthy eating.
• Increase worker access to health information and healthy lifestyle opportunities and services.
• Quantify the prevalence of targeted health risk behaviours of physical activity and healthy eating (based on fruit and vegetable consumption) for chronic disease in workers employed as drivers in each of the involved workplaces.
• Build evidence and knowledge about best practice workplace health interventions for the transport industry.
• Develop best practice models, tools and resources to support Queensland transport workplaces to improve and maintain the health of workers.
• Identify strategies for future sustainability of chronic disease prevention programs for transport workers.
This project is funded through the Healthy Workers Initiative, a joint Australian, State and Territory Government initiative under the National Partnership Agreement on Preventive Health.

Easternwell Camp Management Health Promotion Strategy – Eat Well with Easternwell
RHealth is working with Easternwell Camp Management to develop site-specific health promotion messages to engage employees in positive health behaviours and create supportive environments for healthy eating.
RHealth have engaged in a broad consultation process at the employee, senior and middle management levels to determine the key issues in adopting a health promotion program at remote camp sites. This process has included face to face consultation, regular communication and the development and analysis of a healthy lifestyle survey to 150 camp employees to determine needs, interest and barriers with regards to healthy eating and physical activity in the workplace environment.
Strategies derived from the consultation process have included the development and implementation of monthly healthy lifestyle toolbox talks (covering topics related to chronic disease prevention and issues associated with living in a remote camp environment), menu modification, and health promotion posters and napkin holder inserts to reinforce the healthy lifestyle messages consistent with the monthly toolbox talks.
