In 2008 Queensland Health approached members of the Queensland Divisions Network to implement partnership Projects to assess and manage referrals that are more than two years old, and improve access pathways to Specialist Outpatient Clinics in 11 key hospitals.

Under this Initiative RHealth and GP Connections (Toowoomba & District Division of General Practice) are working with Toowoomba Hospital in the areas of ENT, Orthopaedics and General Surgery.  Other Specialty areas are also being reviewed through a similar process.  Over half of all referrals to Toowoomba Hospital are from surrounding rural areas, with the majority from Dalby, Warwick and Kingaroy.  This work will provide GPs and their patients in the RHealth region with improved access to Specialist Outpatient Clinics at Toowoomba Hospital.  GP Liaison Officers for this Program are Dr Eddie Roos and Dr Gillian McConnell.
