Did you know that 1 in 3 meals are purchased and prepared outside the home?

So, it is up to the community to create supportive environments for healthy eating and RHealth is leading this challenge with Good Food Choices, a Community Nutrition Program. This Pilot Program is up-and-running in Chinchilla and Kingaroy and aims to increase the consumption of healthy food outside the home.

RHealth's Community Nutritionists are working with restaurants, takeaway places and cafes to get menu items accredited as a 'Good Food Choice'.

Businesses are eligible to receive a free nutrition assessment of their menu, guidance on what defines a healthy meal, free promotion in local media and websites, and ongoing support to maintain their Good Food Choices accreditation.

These businesses will become known in the local community as a place where customers can know they are making a healthy choice.

What is a Good Food Choice?

A Good Food Choice is defined as a meal that has:

• - Little fat, or good fat (such as monounsaturated)
• - Low added sugar
• - Low salt
• - At least 1 serve of vegetables (1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup uncooked)
• - A good source of fibre

Who can participate?

Retail food and drink outlets (non-franchised) that serve food for immediate consumption or take away, and fall into 1 of the following categories:

• - Restaurant
• - Cafe
• - Hotel/Motel
• - Takeaway foods
